April 3, 2017 (Midland, Texas) – The Midland Development Corporation (MDC) offers continued support to the Midland Memorial Hospital to recruit physicians to Midland. A strategic plan has been put into motion to fill specialty and general practitioner healthcare gaps that currently exist in the Midland community.
The MDC and Midland Memorial Hospital are two years into an initial agreement that would reimburse the hospital for its expenses associated with physician recruitment in an amount up to $450,000 in 2017.
The hospital has had a successful year with the Hospitalist program being fully staffed and three additional physicians are currently in the contracting phase.
Many of the physicians who have located to Midland to practice have close ties to the area which has proven to increase the likelihood of a long-term investment in the community.
“We hope to improve Midland as a whole and healthcare is a fundamental puzzle piece to a community’s strength and diversity,” said Wesley Bownds, MDC board member.
Total expenses for the first half of the current fiscal year were $361,660.58 and continued recruitment efforts will take place for the remainder of the fiscal year ending September 30, 2017.
The Midland Development Corporation (MDC) promotes the City of Midland and incentivizes qualified employers who create and retain a diversified job market in the greater Midland, Texas, region.
