The Midland Development Corporation Approves Funding for The University of Texas at the Permian Basin New Engineering Building

October 2, 2017 (Midland, Texas) – The Midland Development Corporation (MDC) approved an agreement with The University of Texas at the Permian Basin (UTPB) for the construction of a new engineering building and for the establishment and management of an incubator and makerspace to be located at the Center for Energy & Economic Development (CEED) building.

UTPB has plans to construct an 80,000 sq. ft. facility to be located at the intersection of FM 1788 and HWY 191 to house UTPB’s mechanical, nuclear, aerospace, petroleum, chemical and electrical engineering programs.

The Midland Development Corporation Approves Agreement with TxDOT for the Construction and Improvement of Three Roadway Projects

October 2, 2017 (Midland, Texas) – The Midland Development Corporation (MDC) approved three donation agreements with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) for highway safety improvement projects.

The MDC will contribute a total of $7 million to assist with the timeline acceleration and completion of these three projects by TxDOT:

The Midland Development Corporation Approves Carver Street Road Improvements at Scharbauer Drive

September 11, 2017 (Midland, Texas) – The Midland Development Corporation (MDC) is pleased to contribute an amount not to exceed $1.7 million to road improvements at Carver Street and Scharbauer Drive.

Improvements might include, but are not limited to, drainage, sidewalks, handicapped ramps, road improvements and utilities.

The Midland Development Corporation Supports the Chris Davidson Opportunity Park at Bush Tennis Center

September 11, 2017 (Midland, Texas) – The Midland Development Corporation (MDC) approves $316,000 to assist in the construction of the new Chris Davidson Opportunity Park to be located at Bush Tennis Center.

The original Chris Davidson Opportunity Park was built in 1989 and was inspired by the brief and courageous life of Jan and Steve Davidson’s son, Chris. At the time, it was one of three parks in the country designed to give children with disabilities the privilege of playing side-by-side with their non-disabled peers.   

The Midland Development Corporation Approves an Agreement with Midland College for Expansion of their Midland College Dual Credit Career Program and the Technology Education Program

August 7, 2017 (Midland, Texas) – The Midland Development Corporation (MDC) approved an Economic Development Agreement with the Midland Community College District (Midland College) for the expansion of the Midland College Dual Credit Career Program and the Technology Education Program.

The fostering of the aforementioned programs will promote or develop new or expanded business enterprises in the City of Midland. The programs will assist in the retention of primary jobs through development or expansion of job training facilities for use by higher education.

MMH Receives Baby Boxes to Reduce SIDS

Midland Memorial Hospital is proud to become one of the first hospitals in West Texas to be a designated Baby Box Co. distribution center. Baby Everly of Odessa, TX was the first baby at MMH to receive a Baby Box.
 
The purpose of these boxes is to educate new parents on safe sleep practices and to provide infants with a safe sleep space in an effort to reduce SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). Baby Boxes can be used for the baby's first five to six months of life and are to be placed either on the floor next to the bed, or safely on the bed.

The Midland Development Corporation along with the City of Midland Celebrate the Completion of Briarwood Avenue Road Improvements

May 9, 2017 (Midland, Texas) – The Midland Development Corporation (MDC) is pleased to have been a contributor to the improvements and widening of Briarwood Avenue between Holiday Hill Road and Avalon Drive.

The initial contract of $8.62 million was awarded to the sole bidder of the project, Jones Brothers Dirt and Paving, and the professional services related to design work of Phases II and III was contracted with Parkhill, Smith and Cooper. The project was funded by the City of Midland and the MDC.

The Midland Development Corporation Partners with the City of Midland and TxDOT to enhance safety and improve access on Loop 250 at County Road 1150

May 1, 2017 (Midland, Texas) – The Midland Development Corporation (MDC) approved an Advance Funding Agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) for a highway safety improvement project.

The project will construct main lanes and interchanges at the intersection of Loop 250 and County Road 1150 to convert non-freeway to freeway.

The MDC will contribute $2 million to assist TxDOT with the completion of the project.

The Midland Development Corporation Holds a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Completed LeoLabs Midland Space Radar

April 18, 2017 (Midland, Texas) – The Midland Development Corporation (MDC) and LeoLabs, Inc., celebrate the completion of the Midland Space Radar facility with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Construction of the Midland Space Radar began in September 2016 and was completed in February 2017.
